Loris Vernona Nelson
Loris V. (Nona) Nelson, 79, died Monday June 21 at her home. She was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma December 1, 1930 to Frank and Ivadell Carlson. Her family eventually moved to Des Moines, Iowa where she graduated from Roosevelt High School. She married Ralph L. Nelson September 26, 1948 in Des Moines. He survives. Nona was a resident of the Kansas City area for 42 years. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors in addition to her husband of 61 years are a daughter, Jan (Royce) Mitchell, Marion, IN; and sons Rick (Karen) Nelson, and Jim Nelson, all of Overland Park. She also leaves behind three grandchildren: Luke Mitchell, Indianapolis; Jenna Mitchell, Bloomington, IN, and MacKenzie Nelson, Overland Park, and a sister, Ann Swearingen, Marshalltown, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Steve Carlson.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia St,, Lenexa with T.J. Nidiffer officiating. There will be a visitation an hour before the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date at National Cemetery in Leavenworth.
