Robert R. Allen

Robert R. Allen, 84, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away June 20, 2010. A celebration service will be held at the Raymore Christian Church, Highway 58, Raymore, Mo. on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Rev. Allen was born February 15, 1926, in Corning, Iowa to Cecil and Mae Allen. After graduating in 1944 he entered the V5 Navy program at the University of Dubuque, Dubuque, Iowa. In June of 1946 he was honorably discharged with the rating of MM 2nd Class. In September 1947 he met Charlotte Spainhower, a Farragut, Iowa school teacher. In a matter of months they were engaged to be married and committed to serving in the ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The wedding took place at the First Christian Church in Maryville, Missouri on May 22, 1948. Following a short honeymoon the couple went to Enid, Oklahoma where he enrolled as a student at Phillips University. In 1951 he graduated with the BA Degree. Three years later he was awarded the Master of Divinity Degree from the Phillips Theological Seminary. Following ministries at South Haven, Kansas and Blue Springs, Missouri, the couple went to the Philippine Islands where they served four years as missionaries of the Christian Church (Disciples). Upon returning to the States in 1966 they served Christian Churches at Bloomfield, Iowa; and Maryville, Missouri before serving as Founding Pastors of the West Lake Christian Church at the Lake of the Ozarks. After formal retirement in 1990 the couple served as interim-pastors in the Kansas City Region. Des Moines, Iowa, and northwest Missouri. Their final years of part time ministry were spent serving the United Methodist Church at Kidder, Missouri. Their last years were spent as residents of the Foxwood Springs Living Center, Raymore, Missouri. Rev. Allen was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Howard. Survivors include his wife of the home and their three sons and families: David and Peggy and children - Grant (Megan) of Tuscon, AZ., and Jenna and Ross, of Blue Springs; Jon and Linda and children, Mark and Eric, of St. Joseph; and Steve and Jackie and sons, Cole and Joshua of Blue Springs. Three sisters include: Lois Scott of Salinas, California; Ruth Whitaker of Clarinda, Iowa and Betty Cerven, Weldon, Iowa. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Raymore Christian Church, the Robert and Charlotte Allen Endowed Scholarship at Phillips Theological Seiminary, 910 N.
